x = speed of steamer
x+ 2 = speed dowmstream
x-2 = speed upstream
rate times time = distance
4x = 5(x-2)
4x = 5x-10
x = 10 km/hour

The speed of the steamer is 16 km/h. The difference in its speed going up and down the stream is 4 km/h, which made a difference of one hour. Multiply 4 km/h by 4 hours and you get 16 km/h

(Speed+2)4=distance
(Speed-2)5=disance
distance=distance
(speed+2)4=(speed-2)5
4S+8 =5S-10
18 kmh =S
