Israel gave the Palestinians land and evacuated about 4,000 Israeli families in the process.
Since then, no homes or schools were built on the land given to the Arabs. Instead, rockets have been fired into Israel from the very territory given by Israel to the Arabs.
This gives a whole new meaning to the term "land for peace"...

How can there be peace when the Muslim world, including of course the Palestinians, refuses to recognize Israel's basic right to exist???

The British are to blame for many of the problems; they promised the same bit of land to both the Arabs and the Jews. These two groups were actually living in relative harmony.

The Arabs must eventually admit that there have been Jews living and working in what was then Palestine for the past four thousand years. There are 22 Muslim nations, many of them vast and wealthy. The Jews are entitled to the tiny bit of land that we now call Israel - it's smaller than Wales, for crying out loud!

And yes, of course the Palestinians need a state, but they have to reject terrorism and then the Israelis will be only too happy to start proper discussions. It's very tricky now that the Palestinians have elected Hamas, a terrorist group, to represent them.

How long it will last?I have no idea ...Of course we can not expect the conflict to be resolved in a few weeks. They have been fighting for 60 years,so it might take some time, but I think peace is possible...And yes, there are reasonable solutions.Well Israel should stop pretending that is above international law and start respecting it.Israel should withdraw from all the occupied territories from 1967 ,they should recognize Palestinians right to exist and their right to an independent country and allow Palestinian refugees to come back. There are so many UN resolution concerning those things, but Israel ignores everyone of them...It's funny how Israel ask for recognition from the Palestinians when tha was already made once.In 1993 the Palestinians, through the PLO,have recognize Israel's right to exist in the border from 1967.They gave up more then 70% of the land they were entitled according to the partition plan from 1947...for peace and an independent country...Well guess we all see they got nothing in return...
And when it comes to violence, well both parts should stop it.The IDF keeps killing Palestinians ,the militant organizations keep revenging for those killing and it bring only more violence and death...
Actually there is a vbiable peace plan proposed by the Arab states in 2002 and again now in 2007 that simply asks Israel to respect international law...They ask the withdrawal to the 1967 borders and the creation of a Palestinian state and also a just solution for the Palestinian refugees..."Land for peace"...

Palestinians should be afforded their rights according to the UN Declaration of Human Rights. Then a political solution may be bartered to create two states side by side sharing the land and its resources equitably or the more just solution granting citizenship to all residents of one multi cultural state.

None of that will occur until Israel ceases to terrorize the Palestinian population and abides by the UN resolutions pertinent to the occupation of the West Bank, Gaza, the Sheeba Farms and the Golan.

Another pre requisite to a peaceful settlement of the Palestinian-Israeli sttruggle and the overall Mid-East crisis would be for the US to cease its support for brutal dictatorships in the M.E and to cease supplyinfg Israel with terrifying and often illegal weapons.

It will last as long as Israeli leaders and Israeli lobby in the USA refuse to recognize the right of Palestine to exist too.
No one could NOT change his mind unless he has no mind.
Occupying other people by force is losing policy in the past and now and has no future.

Jews and Arabs lived together for 2,000 years in relative peace. Yes, not all Jews were kicked out in Diaspora. Then the British took over Palestine after WW1. Domination was somewhat benign, but Brits were trying to re-establish influence in Middle-East (Lawrence of Arabia) and prevent Russia from taking over in that area. Brits made many pacts with Arab States, and The White Paper guaranteed Arab and Jewish Palestinians equal rights. WW11 made Brits forget promises to Jews. Jewish Battalions fought in British Army and did the dirty work in Middle-East. Most were native Palestinian. After war, Britain abrogated all promises to Jews, including supporting fledgling Israel State. Jews revolted and kicked out Britain. Most Palestinian Arabs stayed out of this fight, but neighboring Arab States sent in combatants of their military to slaughter Jews. Israel formed and offered equal citizenship rights to native Arabs. Sheiks in neighboring states who owned Palestinian Arab land, sold to speculators who kicked out Arabs. Jews bought land.
Until Arabs admit to this, there is little hope to resolve issue. Palestinian Arabs are placed in concentration camps and have stayed there for 60 years, Lebanon today. Twenty-five % of Jordanians have Palestinian orgin. Eygypt refused admittance to Palestinians for the most part, but used them in wars against Israel.
