"I need Mariah?"

Is that a bad way of asking for her?

I have a studdering problem and I cant say anything else but that without studdering I already tried asking "Is Mariah there?" but I kept studdering...and everyting else..

so is saying "I need Mariah" a bad way of putting it?

Does Mariah know that you stutter? If she does, then "I need Mariah," or "Mariah, please?" should be okay. She can explain to whomever answered the phone that you were not being rude.

Yeah, I think you need a better way to say it. If that's all you say, you might come off sounding really pushy.

I don't know your particular case, but a lot of times when a person has a studdering problem, if they just take their time and speak slowly, they can get the words out.

Maybe try practicing it that way. I guarantee you that even if you have to say it slow, it will be better than just saying "I need Mariah."

Good luck!

"I need Mariah" sounds a little pushy. I hate to say it if it's the only greeting you can say without stuttering. Try some of the other ones suggested. Otherwise, if you're going to be calling there frequently explain the situation and they will understand.

If Mariah were my daughter and you asked for her this way, I'd probably ask (unintimidatingly, I hope), "What do you need her for?" If you were her recognized and approved boy friend, I'd probably even recognize and indulge your shudders and put her on immediately. However, in general, I'd much rather you asked, "May I speak to Mariah, please?" Even better if you identify yourself first!
