Dinosaurs first appeared about 230 million years ago. This is called the early Triassic period.

The earliest dinosaur (that we know of) was Eoraptor lunensis, who is believed to have lived some 227 million years ago.

We can say "about 230 million years ago" - but that's give or take a few million years. We can't even narrow it down to a million. Also, this number is based on the earliest dinosaur remains that have been discovered *so far*. There may be older remains that have not yet been discovered, and there may be older dinosaur species which have left no remains.

I looked it up on the calendar I got from my local bank but it doesn't go back far enough. If you want a rough time period not a specific year, go with "over 250 million years."

65 million years ago the died off.
