Ya know I'm pretty direct about that....I hate smoke....I'd just say please don't smoke inside....

Many years ago I held a day time party at my house, before no smoking was more generally accepted. I put up a series of arrows withTO THE SMOKING AREA on them and they led to the far end of my garden. The message was clear and I had no problems. Now most of my friends do nor smoke but when the odd one penetrates the battlements I politely ask that they do not smoke as I do not like the smell and discomfort of it.
That always works. The one person that insisted that I was joking and lit up anyway was shown the door and his wife was livid with him. I haven't seen him since.

Simple, it's your house. Tell them not to smoke in the house. Maybe set up a smoking section outside somewhere.

I think you have to tell them directly - it is your house after all. My sister doesn't smoke and never allows it in her house - smokers just automatically go outside now. You will probably find that you will only need to tell people once and they will know for future visits.

If you prefer not to confront them like that you could always put an 'ashtray/pot' and brolly by the door and say - I've made provisions for you - and if it's raining the brolly will come in useful.

Whatever you decide to do, just remember that after all, it's your house.

Just tell them that smoking isn't allowed in your house and put some no smoking signs on your front door! That should do it!!

Get one of those "thank you for not smoking" signs. It is rude of people to smoke in your house without asking first anyway

By telling them that they should not smoke in your house. Put lawn chairs in a nice spot outside so they can have somewhere nice to sit while smoking. You don't want them to think that you are a B so allow them to do it outside.

Just tell them outright. I smoke, and if I ever go round to a non smoking friend's house, I will always say "I am just popping outside for a ciggie", I would never just light up. Thats rude.

Just two simple things
1st A no smoking sign on your front door
2nd A fire extinguisher in case anyone thinks they can flout you the rules of your HOME

I'm a smoker and I'd never dream of lighting up in a non smokers home, these people are my friends and I do not insult my friends

A big No Smoking sign on your door mat before anyone knocks your door. Then when someone comes in very politely say 'oh and if you would like to smoke - I ask all my guests to use the garden' and nominate a place in the garden.
