Our church is having an air guitar contest. My husband plays elec. guitar but thats all we have so far. Whats the format? How would the rules play out? What are the awards and categories? Help me out! This will be in a teen/youth section, but I'm sure there are some adults who will jump right in! Thanks for answering!

Air guitar is the doing as if you are playing guitar.
Specially the long solos.

You hold your hands as if there is a guitar there, but there is nothing.

See a few video clips with famous guitar solos and do as they are doing, lacking the guitar.
People who really play guitar are a little handicapped by knowing what to do.

The winner mostly is the one who can be the most dramatic but still seems to follow the music best with his right hand, the one playing the strings, not the one gripping the cords. (That one just has to move along the imaginary neck, to catch that high cord.)

If you do have to supply the music, try to get some of the dramatic solos out of the seventies.

If this answer (and the others here) are not enough, try asking again in the entertainment section of this site.
There are world events in Air guitar.
