My cousin is a captain, 29 yrs, in the army and to be honest, he's extremely childish. I wanted to get him professional help but he doesn't want to. He' extremely cocky but when confronted he gets really nervous and then, like a kid, bad mouths almost like as if her were to throw a tantrum. The reason I want to get him prof. help is because he's obsessed with guns and he's very temperamental. Do you think that his personality is a threat? Does his extreme childishness cause for the sudden weapons obsession (he even unregistered guns! brought back from Irak)?

Um, you can let his superior officer know, and they can make him go to get professional help. That would be a good option for you. No one in the military should be behaving that way, nor possessing illegal firearms. He is what I would consider dangerous, and it is your moral duty to let his superiors know so they can get him the proper help!

In the temperament circle, I might say he is choleric and sanguine. Choleric because he is "confident" in his abilities, and sanguine because he does things out of impulse, am I right? Anyway, trying to force professional help on him my not be such a good idea if he is not willing to accept it (unless the problem is really severe). Doing so may make him less trustworthy of you, and thus rendering you less effective to help him. Also, he may choose to refuse any help whatsoever from a professional ever again.

What I suggest is that you tell him kindly about what you think about his attitudes, and why he should change them. Talk with him for a while, and make him "see" that he needs the help. If he continues on, then don't blame yourself. It will be his fault if he gets into trouble in the future, and he would have to realize that. Again, don't blame yourself. That's important.

bad mouthing people doesn't really explain his temper. Now if he threw things, or even threaten people with a gun then I would have a problem with it. You say he is a 29 year old male and is childish... they are all childish at that age, some never do grow up. You were very vague on your description on him so its hard to give an answer. Good luck!

if he's british - you should push it a bit further it's not normal or acceptable for the british to own or be obsessed with guns, but be nice after all he does have illegal firearms.

if he's American it's a lot more accepted for that kind of thing over there i wouldn't worry too much only start to worry if he's got an unhealty absolute hatred for a person/or group of people coupled with this obsession for guns. If so deal with the hatred not the guns, but be nice remember he does have illegal firearms
