Oh, Kedar, here you've got me running my head again.
I don't understand how you are using "attacking" and "defending"?
I disagree that clever is bad. A bad idea can be clever. But a clever idea can be either bad or good. For instance, someone with a clever thing can have it patented and make millions of bucks.
Smart is accumulated knowledge. I think clever is more part of one's character. It's a way of thinking whereas smart is what you think about. To me smart is boring, but clever is fascinating.
A fox is cunning.
And yes, a girl who refuses to get into a stranger's vehicle is smart.
smart and clever I think are both related to confident and determined.

Being Clever is the ability to do more with less.
Being Smart is an innate ability to act intelligently.
The wild card in all this is the inclusion of Common Sense, or Practicality.
Clever people tend to use more common sense and practicality to solve problems.
Smart people tend to rely more on logic and reason.
Either way can work, but they're not necessarily compatible.

Smart comes from experience; you can either be book-smart by attaining an education or you can be street-smart from a variety of personal life experiences.
Being clever is a completely different characteristic which is more like wit; its a hightened sense of awareness that allows an individual to see parallels, ironies, or humor in various situations that most people cannot easily see---then they can make a "clever" or "witty" comment noting such parallel, irony, or humor. I find that cleverness usually comes easier with intelligence.

Like many pairs of words, those 2 are comparable and interchangeable in some situations. i've got faith the lexical distinction includes some nuances that are actually not an identical. A "clever" individual is attentive to instinctively how some thing works. (he's clever with Honda autos.) A "clever" individual has the skill to study greater rapidly than yet another. (Being clever, he had little difficulty in calculus type.) There are some cases the place one observe would be beside the point. "he's clever along with his palms" means that he can manage some thing better than others- a potter or sculptor ought to be "clever along with his palms." you will not say, "he's clever along with his palms because of the fact he's a robust potter." that would make little or no sense. don't fret approximately this pair of words. study greater and you gets the suited meaning. some issues are purely area of an expression, like the "clever along with his palms" expression. another meaning for "clever" hasn't a lot to do with cleverness or maybe intelligence: in case you have soreness on your epidermis brought about with the help of a few thing like an effect or a slap, you will use "clever." "I stated some thing rude to her, so she slapped me. Now my face smarts." "I dropped my shoe on my bare foot, now my foot smarts." wish this facilitates. ... Take care!!
