i like games like Settlers of Catan, Risk, Ticket to Ride, etc. Are there any new strategy games out there that I should look at?

If you're into more abstract strategy gaming, I'll put in a recommend for Blokus and Ingenious, both very solid abstract games.

If you prefer a little theme on top of your strategy, here are some of the recent favorites among my board gaming group:

Mykerinos
Colosseum
Goldbrau
Caylus
Puerto Rico
Mexica/Tikal/Java

You don't necessarily have to play a new game. you could use variants of different games. An example would be Nuclear Risk it's played with the same basic rules as Risk with this exception, If the attacking player rolls a double than the attacked territory becomes a nuclear waste land and no one can go through it for the rest of the game. You know stuff like that

I like Axis and Allies and Shogun that were mentioned already.

In addition, you can check out the Risk variants like 2120 and Godwar.

I also enjoy the Civilization board game, War in the Age of Imperialism, and Napoleon in Europe. Careful, you're going to need a lot of time or a dedicated table.

Illuminati is a cool strategy-type game that can be played relatively quickly. There's no board, but you kind of build one out of the cards in play.

The Carcassonne family of games (Hunters & Gatherers is the best starter), San Juan, Puerto Rico, Caylus, Caylus Magna Carta, Medici, Bohnanza and others. All from Rio Grande Games.

I don't know of new ones, but if you can find any from the GameMaster series... those are really fun startegy games. There was a limited number of them made, but I managed to find Axis & Allies on Ebay. The other ones were Fortress America (I had and loved), Shogun (Had and loved it too), and another one which I've never found and can't remember the title of.

The two ultimate classic strategy games (or as Bush would say "strategery") are Chess & Go (an oriental game).

Any new games really pale in comparison.
