I have a small company...about five to ten computers and our tape backup is going bad. It's an internal one, but we are searching for the adv/disadv of external. Any thoughts?

Replace it. Using tape when you can get 500GB external drives for $200 doesn't make a lot of sense. You can buy multiple USB drives and swap them each day.

External may have more options and it won't have to always be connected to the same system.

There are other options. Many server admins are going to RAID arrays with a Network Attached Storage. Just use a tape storage system for weekly or bi-weekly backups.

External is better, it's for sure.
