Im just interested in listening to songs about death or losing someone. I like soft rock kinda stuff, Pete Yorn, Death cab for cutie, dashboard confessional, goo goo dolls, DMB. Things like that, but i do like hard rock and rap too so i guess it doesnt matter what the genre is.

The best "funeral song" I've ever heard was on a cassette tape (that dates me, doesn't it??) in college, it belonged to a neighbor of mine in the dorm. It was called, "I can't cry hard enough" or "hard enough" by Julie Miller. I've never been able to find it since then, not on the internet or anywhere. I think she's a Christian singer, but that song is fatally awesome.

"I'm gonna live my life
like every day's the last
No simple goodbye
it all goes by so fast
and now that you're gone
i can't cry hard enough
no i can't cry hard enough
for you to hear me now

i'm gonna open my eyes
and see for the first time
i let go of you like
a child letting go of his kite

....there it goes
up in the sky
there it goes
beyond the clouds
no reason why
i can't cry hard enough
no i can't cry hard enough'
for you to hear me now

i'm gonna look back in vain
to see you standing there
and all that remains
is just an empty chair
and now that you're gone'
i can't cry hard enough
no i can't cry hard enough
for you to hear me now

....there it goes
up in the sky
there it goes
beyond the clouds
no reason why
i can't cry hard enough
no i can't cry hard enough'
for you to hear me now."

the music is what makes the song.

you could try TOOL's Wings for Marie part 2 (10,000 days) from the 10,000 Days album. It discusses that general subject. I read that it was about the singer's mother.

"Diamonds & Rust" by Joan Baez. Download it, buy it, do whatever you have to do to listen to it. You'll thank me for the recommendation. It's a song she wrote about her experiences with Bob Dylan. Enjoy!
