Your voice and dsl share the same physical wiring. DSL uses a frequency that is audible but is not needed for voice conversation. That is why voice lines need a filter.

You can use a modem on the voice line, but because of the limited frequency range (some being reserved for DSL) you may not get a very high speed from your modem.

So connecting to the Internet over DSL and also connecting to something via dialup at the same time is possible. Why oh why would you want to do it, though?

The phone line has to be split into 2 feeds.

One line goes to the modem with the WAN feed from the modem goes to the pc's network port.

The other line goes to a DSL filter and the output of the filter goes to the modem.

You have to set up your dial up preferences in Internet Explorer, Internet Options screen.
