When a person posts on Y!A and the question or answer is extremely insulting to other political parties, what is the objective? There is a lot of insulting that goes on here and I have been curious if people are just venting frustration or if they are trying to convince others of their viewpoint. It's almost like a game--insults, thumbs down or up, collect points, etc.
Either way, do you believe it ultimately does any good or do you think it helps further the divide between fellow Americans?

No sir I don't. Yes I think it furthers the divide. Sometimes I just can't help myself, I am as guilty as anyone else. Though I have been trying to temper my responses. Sometimes I'll pass if what I have to say is insulting.

In all honesty I found my self taking a question or two recently out of context ending up insulting the poster,in which the poster in additional details insulted me back..on thinking why, I concluded, because politics is a heated subject.,...
Having said that I have learned quite a bit about people on this forum, mainly my point of view isn't the only point of view or for that matter the best,as well I'm not always as smart as I like to think !

The majority of the 'insulters' are trolls with no lives, so they spend a lot of time on YA looking for people to insult. They come in all stripes of political affiliation. I've had liberals assume I was conservative and conservatives assume I'm liberal on the same question, go figure. Ignore them.

alot of it is ranting and raving.
and trolling....
some trolls are obvious....
others less so....maybe they better writers.
ever run across a person that loved to break your balls?
and had almost a sixth sense about which "buttons" to push.
some posters are like that.
and I have seen a number of posts that raised my hackles
sometimes I respond
sometimes I don't
I learn something when I research and get links to refute a post.
The poster that posts the same question half a dozen times kinda bugs me.

Reducing ones self to insults regardless of political affiliation, only shows the ignorance and lack of willingness by that person to engage in rational debate.

For those on here who are open minded and interested in learning knew things and having legitimate discussions, it is doing some good. However, there are some people on here who will live and die within the constraints of their political label. For those people, they are just hear to rant and rave.

It's frustration mainly.
Also I think those on left really are angry at the things our government is doing.
I think those on the right are being told to believe those on the left are Anti-American.
I think we are all patriotic Americans.
We all just have different ideas of what powers are justifiable by our government.
The left thinks the government goes too far and those on the right think the government is justified!
Bush and his administration have gone too far!!
And they have contributed criminally to this division in our country!!

I think (I hope) most of the insulters are immature teenagers....
Of course there is also that talk radio is an influence and they have been doing the insult thing for twenty years and so it's a bit of monkey see, monkey do on the right and payback on the left.

What better way to show lack of subject knowledge and maturity than to use insults in an intelligent discussion? Who needs reason or logic? Debates should be about name-calling!

bro, do you know what a forum TROLL is?
this board clearly has individuals posting on it whose only objective is to derail intelligent discourse.
some of these trolls simply enjoy masturbating to their own posts.
others, clearly, have an agenda.
exercise some common sense and stay away from obviously inflammatory posts.
