It depends on a few factors. First of all, women secreet cervical mucus throughout their cycle and most of the time it is hostile to sperm. That means that upon ejaculation inside the female, the sperm are trapped in the sticky mucus and die within hours. The days before ovulation the cervical mucus begins to thin and become more favorable for the sperm to live in. So, when the sperm is ejcaulated into fertile quality cervical mucus it can swim forward and potentially live for up to 5 days but about 2-3 is average. Some men have stronger sperm than other men and therefore it can live longer. Also, X sperm (the sperm for girl babies) swims a little slower but lives longer than the Y Sperm.

The answer is actually 3-5 days.
It depends on how old the sperm is. Unfortunaltey it is not as easy and picking up one of the little guys and asking him his birthday!!
If the man hast ejaculated for a while the sperm is older. It will not live as long in the woman. It may not even survive enough to get to his spot to meet the egg.
This is why Drs suggest having sex every other day for 2 weeks. This gives the sperm a better chance of survival. You want the sperm there waiting for the egg.
