Why does it seem cons don't ever verify things for themselves?

Question

If you've seen me post, you would know I'm always citing third party sources like Whitehouse.org, the Census, Library of Congress, American Meteorological Society, Geological Society of America, etc, etc.

Why is it cons rarely do the same thing? At most, they will cite right-wing partisan sites like CATO, newsmax, and Heritage.

You don't see me citing democratic underground or moveon.org.

Don't cons want to learn something new or VERIFY what you believe really is true?

For example, some con said there was double digit unemployment under Carter. Had he verified this for himself (on the Labor department website) he would have seen there was no double digit unemployment under Carter and that in fact unemployment was higher under Nixon and Reagan.

When has a conservative let the truth stand in the way of their point of view? Never. They hear their mouthpieces (Limbaugh, Hannity, O'Reilly, etc) and try to sell you a bill of goods based on somebody's biased opinion. Limbaugh's followers are quite happy of calling themselves ditto heads, that should tell you something about their cognitive skills. It is easier to leave the thinking to somebody else, regardless of whether or not that other person has two brain cells working at the same time. I have a colleague that swears that Dick Cheney NEVER linked Al-Qeada to Iraq, notwithstanding all the evidence on newspapers, television and the web to the contrary. Somehow, evil Dick Cheney's twin uttered all those things. Wait a minute, evil Dick Cheney's twin is himself!!! So, do not despair, that is the way they function. I am like Will Rogers: "I do not belong to any organized party, I am a Democrat."

Let's all get something straight: There's nothing conservative about running up a record deficit so anyone who supports the Bush regime shouldn't be tagged as a "con". If you took care of your family finances for 8 years and got yourself completely out of debt and then your wife or husband took over and racked up a couple of hundred thousand in credit cards, pissed off all of the neighbors that you used to be friends with and starting giving money away to her rich greedy relatives would you consider that conservative behavior?

I move that we start calling each other DEMs or REPs and quit all of this con & lib B.S.

I usually give my opinion to questions, or don't need a source.
You asked a ?? about taxes earlier, that tax cuts don't work.
I said, if I pay less in taxes, and keep more money, how are the tax cuts not working for me??
I do not know what source I could use?

Hell I'm guilty of being lazy too - but I don't know of many cons who even bother to cite sources or check that they would be acceptable as credible.

You make a good point, but unfortunately most people, liberal, moderate or conservative, would rather let someone else do their thinking. I just get tired of hearing talk radio and TV hosts quoted.
