It's amazing in pictures, especially the coast and the islands. I'd do it by boat, not car, so I could take in more ports, islands, and beaches than roads and parking and traffic and horns, etc.
You could park the car in Pula, Rovinj, Split or Dubrovnik and take day cruises, too if you really decide to take the car.

Croatia is an absolutely beautiful, amazing country. The people are wonderful and it's an exciting culture. Dubrovnik and Split are worth visiting as well as the islands off the Dalmation Coast. I'm jealous - have a great time!
