First and foremost I am a Republican... I think Edwards is in third place right nowfor the Democrats and he will probably stay there. I think his decision to stay in the race after his wifes announcement of Cancer was a noble decision, however, I think it will ultimately cost him. In the past several president dealt with personal tragedy while in the White House but given the opportunity to avoid it, I feel that the American people will. Why take on a risk such as that if it can be avoided. Odds are that it will not affect his decision making abilities, however, I doubt the american people will take that chance. Kudos to them for sticking it out, It will not be fair for the voters to use the illness against him but I think it will happen nonetheless.

He is also a trial lawyer who has make his fortune on lawsuits that many would deem frivolous. At least Bill and Hillary weren't ambulance chasers.

Of course, there's only one way to find out; I wish more people would like to find out, as he's the one I'm supporting.

He's spent the years since the last election talking to people, collecting really good people, and developing ideas about what to do.

Unfortunately, the media have already narrowed the choices of nominee for us, and won't allow us to even consider any of the others (like, by telling us anything about any but the 2 they're chosen for us).

So, most likely, hardly anyone will hear what Edwards would try to accomplish, and how.

I must say, I found reading all the previous answers depressing.

But then, I've never noticed answers on this site to be representative of the public in general. It tends to skew to the minority.

I would much prefer to see Ron Paul in the White House, but I would take Edwards over the domineering of any stuffed shirt, war-mongering, corporate whore, K Street scumbag any day.

A pretty boy... SO F-ING WHAT??!! JFK was the biggest playboy ever to sit in the oval office!!!
Edwards pulled himself up from NOTHING, and has more of a grasp of what the common man, 90% of the U.S. population, has to go through on a daily basis to survive. The elitist porkers have had their 8 years of free rides, and now it's time for a change.

EDIT:

Well if you consider Edwards unfit because he's a lawyer, that puts your golden boy Thompson down in the pond scum too. I'll take a trial lawyer over a K Street charlatan.

There is nothing in what he's done or said that gives me the least indication that he'd make a good president. In fact, everything points to him making a terrible president, IMO.

Could we pull him away from a mirror long enough to govern? What would happen if the wind from the propellers of a helicopter messed his hair up?

Seriously, this guy can't even wave to the poor people who live across the street from him and yet his platform is "for the poor". Therefore, my response is.. NO!

No. I've read too much from behind the scenes. Also think his wife's medical crisis is a private matter. Also saw how long it took him to comb his hair.

The ambulance chaser would be much better than Rottenham Clinton but not as good as Bush. And Bush sucks.

After 8 miserable years of lies and deceit with bush, a president like John Edwards would seem like a saint.

no. he made his millions from being an 'ambulance chaser'. he is not above using the death of his son and his wife's cancer to gain sympathy votes. he has no ethics. (he's a lawyer, need i say more?)

imho any american that did not grow up with a silver spoon in his/her mouth would be preferable to most that are running. i believe in him for the fact that he grew up poor and has made something of himself. his emphasis on the two america's theme is important to our times and i believe he would do a good job to help improve our country
