The big boys in computer networking are Cisco and Juniper, Cisco being my weapon of choice.
But for small home or office setups I recommend Netgear, Linksys, Belkin, or D-Link. Anything else I would stay away from!

Good is a relative term.
Most low end home base units are moderate to weak performers. The common popular ones, Linksys, Netgear, D Link, Belkin, and the likes are low end and of moderate reliability. They are the low cost units and are under $100
3 Com has the low cost and some slightly more costly units. The more costly units are better quality and this is why they cost more. These are around $185
The robust units include Adtran, Sonic Wall, and Cisco. These cost more, are markedly better, are much more stable, and cost more. Of the 3 the Netvanta 2050 from Adtran is a value leader. Unless you are hosting a VPN on the router, you do not need the enhanced version. Expect to ay $280 for these. The Cisco 800 series is probably the most costly and is similar to the Netvanta 2050 in performance.
You get what you pay for.

I actually don't recommend Linksys anyway (they have a habit of dropping the wireless signal). I am using a Netgear wireless router and it works great. I know that TrendNet works quite good too.

Netgear makes good wireless routers. I have had four of them (changing as technology has advanced) and all worked very well. They also were relatively easy to set up and customize.
