Besides the obvious, it feels good, right?
To me sex is the ultimate intimacy between two people. We crave the closeness and the touching.
I was celibate for 14 years until 6 months ago because I was so pissed off at men, I had finally had enough of the bull$hit. Celibacy does not mean no orgasm, obviously. Celibacy does mean no intimate connection with another person. I let my hate protect me. When I decided to try again, it was nice to feel passion again. Unfortunately, I found that men are still the same. He did make me desire to find real love again. I have no idea if I ever will and I know that I can live without it.

The emotional connection and attraction first ... a certain type of special tenderness ... then the overwhelming physical desire will follow. It is physical demonstration of a special love and affection - at least for me. Some people do it with just about anyone half-way decent just because they are horny but she has to mean something to me for me to share myself physically with a woman.
One more thing. I meet women all the time where I feel a strong sexual attraction first, you know - right up front. Since I know nothing about them at that point, I have no idea if there is an emotional connection - only just animal desires. I think that is pretty normal.

1. Because they love each other.
2. Because it feels good.
3. Because they want to have children.
