You can get Hav-a-Hart live catch traps in squirrel size. They are open ended on both sides and have a bait trigger in the center. When the squirrel comes in for the bait the end doors latch down. You then pick up the trap by the handle, put in a a paper bag so the squirrel is calm in the dark, and then drive it more than three miles from your house. Tip it over and the squirrel runs out into a new area and won't come back to your place. I was overrun last year and got about one squirrel or chipmunk every day until they were not a problem.

Go to your nursery store and buy inflatable animals. You can find owls, snakes, and a big yellow circle with huge eyes that spins.

Put them by the garden and that should do it. But, in the case of the owl and the snake, you'll have to change the locations often. The squirrels end up figuring out they're inflatables.

You may even go to the toy store and find some for better prices there

12 guage - number 6 shot - lol

Seriously, a good mutt from the pound would probably keep the squirrels on the run, and add a little fun to the garden too.

Get a feeder and put dried field corn and sunflowers seeds in it. The squirrels will prefer that over anything in your garden.
Make sure you position it far from the garden. That's what I do..

good luck

Moth Balls, they are the best deterrent for rats, mice, & snakes also. And they last along time, not very expencive either. You just put one about every two feet around the perimiter of whatever you want to protect.
