Although dancers are generally very thin, there is no weight requirement for taking a dance class. The body type misconceptions most likely stem from the requirements of professional dance companies, shows etc. There is a lot of pressure for a professional dancer to maintain a certain appearance, but this is not the case for an amateur, they can be of any size and shape. Enjoy the class and don't worry about the weight!!!

Yeah I'd say about 115-140. I just got a sports physical and my doctor said I was 5'6 and weighed 106 lbs. but that I weighed less than 50% of the people my height so I would guess a little over what I weigh. You shouldn't change your weight for a hip hop class though. We have some heavier people that take hip hop classes at my studio and they are sometimes better than the thinner people. Be happy with yourself!!!

there really isnt an "appropriate" weight. you can be a larger size and still be able to dance, and some people tend to be a healthy size but weigh more because of muscle mass. its just important that you're in shape.
