For my year 12 hsc Individual performance, I've decided (and very late in the year to do so) to change mine to Alice in Wonderland.
I'm 17 but can pull of a childish act and my teacher really likes the idea.

I'm trying to write it myself using the novel, but it has to go for 6-8 minutes and there is more dialogue other than Alice which becomes hard to try an avoid but as its a monologue I have to do it all myself.

I have about 3 minutes maybe 3:30 if I'm really lucky with movement, but I'm stuck at the mad hatters tea party. before this I have pretty much the whole story up untill the room with the doors in it and the key and shrinking and such. from there once through the door I have said I am looking for the garden I saw and then after reading a "signpost" and deciding to go to the march hares, I am now stuck.

Any Help would be really really really really appreciated.

The first part of it is the "falling down the rabbit hole" thing.. only its done in present tense. I'm acting out the falling down the rabbit hole and then the room with the doors. I have written that and it goes for about 3 minutes. I only need say about 30 seconds to a minute worth of dialogue cos then I can move onto the catterpillar perhaps and finish it with her being confused and wanting to go home...

Do you need to write it yourself or can you at least draw from monologues already written?

Take a look at this for inspiration:

You can also say other character's dialogue for them. In the case of the caterpillar you can simply say something like "What do you mean who am I, don't you think I ought to know who you are first?" or you say it more narratively and say "I came upon a caterpillar smoking a hookah and, can you imagine... he asked me (put on the caterpillar voice) Who are you?" or just tell them he ask you who you were... there are many ways of getting around other character's dialogue, you just have to figure out how you want to do it.

good luck

I did a monologe of falling down the rabbit hole once and I got a callback and got into the show. So I guess it's good for a monologe. Just make sure you do alot of moving. Also, describe your surroundings. Have natural pauses and an "umph!" when you land. Also, work on that british accent if you don't already have one. It'll impress your teacher. Also, even if you're 17, you can still act out a younger role. That's why they call it "acting" right? If you can act like Alice and do it well. Everyone will think you are pretty awesome. Good luck!
