It depends on what you will use the computer for. Desktops are more powerful than laptops, but have less mobility. If you're using it for uni or school or something or often have to check your mail away from home I suggest going for a laptop. You can also take it on holidays, trips, etc. But if you mostly only need it inside the house and are into gaming or other graphics-heavy tasks, go for a desktop. There are laptops with great graphics cards, but because those graphics cards are meant for desktop PCs, they completely chew through your battery life and you'd have to constantly have it plugged in anyway, which kind of defeats the purpose of a laptop.

Definitely a laptop. The only good reasons i can think to get a desktop are if you are worried about it getting stolen or if you need a huge hard drive. But laptop hard drives are getting bigger and bigger, i just saw a laptop with a 160 GB HD at Dell.com. Also, laptops use less electricity and are therefore better for the environment.

Laptop is best for mobility and worst for its ergonomics. Desktop is best in everything except mobility. If you already have a decent desktop, then get a laptop. But when using for long hours, use the desktop. The laptop could give you neck and wrist pains.

Man, I have both. I love the laptop, I have wireless internet for my laptop and I can be in the living room doing homework or playing games on my laptop while my wife is watching t.v-- I can even take my laptop to work to get homework done, it is just easier to pack up the laptop and take it wherever you need. Also laptops now have all the same features as a pc, so its your call. I bought a nice toshiba laptop from reburbdepot.com and paid half price, it is in new condition and i love it.

For first timers get a desktop...

Desktop = Less cost, more bang for the buck.

Laptop = more expensive, more fragile.

Get a desktop definetly.

Desktops are ALWAYS FASTER because they have more room for upgrades, and laptops can't carry all of the power in their little bodies ;)...

If you are headed to college, get a laptop...

it depends on how you use it.
with labtop you get mobility and you can save space. which means you can bring it to the nearest starbuck or whatever. however it's a little more expansive than desktop (including the parts) upgrading will also cause more.

you should pick a desktop unless you want mobility (which is quite important to some people).

laptops are great to have if you invest in one that could be a desktop relplacement, as in it will be almost as powerful. the thing about desktops is you cant take them everywhere like a laptop.
