are you just being silly for silly sake, or you serious?
It has to do with supply and demand.
Wages are low because that is what is usually paid based on the amount of skilled workers vs the amount of available jobs.
Thus, little skill to work as a clerk and not enough jobs to go around means you get paid squat.
Plus the companies are in the business of turning the largest profit to pay its stockholders, CEO's and all the people who get paid the massive bucks.
Peace
Jim

Most gas stations are franchises owned by small business operators. They purchase the gasoline, sell it to the public for usually only a small profit, and when gas prices jump, it hits them first. Most of them struggle for a long time when they open, and make more selling milk and soda than they do selling gas. The gas station attendant is more like the guy working for domino's pizza- yeah, it's a wealthy company, but the local chain isn't seeing any of it, and the delivery person is out in the cold on minimum wage because that's what mom and pop stores can afford to pay, and there are always people willing to do it for that pay scale.

That's great. I think we should ask them to pay their government subsidies back. If I were on welfare and made 50K profit, I'm sure the government would come after me...
Even though ExxonMobil is the most profitable corporation in the world, the oil giant is still using its legal clout to avoid paying $4.5 billion in punitive damages from the 1989 Exxon Valdez oil spill. At the same time, ExxonMobil is spending millions to delay action on global warming. As the only oil corporation that still denies the urgency of climate change, ExxonMobil spent nearly $16 million between 1998 and 2005 funding “junk science” from front groups that confuse the issue. Despite record oil-prices and industry profits, ExxonMobil continues to receive billions of dollars from publicly-funded corporate handouts, in the form of tax breaks and royalty relief (for oil taken from public lands).

i bet you cant tell me the difference between a profit and a profit margin
gas station clerks don't do anything that is worth paying them that kind of money. maybe if they purchased some stock in the oil company they could afford a better home.
what did this person do (or doesn't do for that matter) that prevents them from earning a better wage? i have a friend who didn't get his HS diploma yet earns more money than a gas station clerk.

Are you jealous? There is a thing called savings accounts in banks as well as investing in stocks. My brother used to be a service station manager and he saved and scrimped until he had enough of a down payment for a nice house. I think you're just jealous that you don't have the will power to save money. BTW, I just bought a house the day before yesterday and you probably make more than I do and if you're on welfare I know you make more than I do.

The shareholders in Exxon would never allow such an expenditure, which would negatively impact their dividends.
The executives and Board of Directors have to act according to the wishes of the shareholders, who can vote to replace the Board and the next shareholder conference.

because it doesnt take a genius to pump it or to take cash. You dont get rich by giving it away.
The free and open market decides the value of a job in the free world, and clerks are where they are because of what they have to do and because of the skill sets available from the people who typically apply for these jobs.
