It sounds like by asking this question you are fishing for a "yes" answer. I'd say no, it's not therapeutic to waste time and/or money - with waste being the key word. Is it okay to take some time for yourself or treat yourself to something expensive now and then, of course! But just from the way you worded this question, I'm guessing your out of control, others have noticed it, and you're looking for confirmation that it's okay.

Definitely! If I'm having a stressful day at work not only do I go out in my lunch break and spend but my day seems to get less productive and I waste time going on the Internet or whatever and not really doing anything. I find both these things a temporary distraction from the stressful problems!

Sure they are. Both are releases and forms of freedom. Wasting money can also be called comfort spending.

my wife sure does think so. She will go buy shoes when she already has 50+ pairs, then when she comes home she is happy.
