Well, yes, you are unique, but you are not alone in not liking the Potter films.
I love the films, but have read the books. The books go into so much more detail about the magical world, and really capture your imagination that none of the directors of the films have been able to do. JK Rowling is truly and exceptional writer. She puts a lot of care and depth into all the characters. Unfortunately, for time, the directors have had to downplay a lot of that. This is a shame, because the books really capture what it's like to grow up, and not know what is going on in your world. Harry goes through a lot of angst. Sadly, only some of that is on the screen.
I've said this before, but I think the only way to really tell the story well visually, would be in a tv series, that had a decent sized budget for special effects. That way, you could do each book as a season of the show, and after 7 years, the kids would still be the right age (Harry is 11 in book one, 17 in book 7), and be able to still include most of the stuff that they had to disregard for the films.

If you like fantasy, but do not like the Harry Potter books (me neither!), try the Christopher Chant books, also published as the Chronicles of Chrestomanci.

The books, written in the 1970-80s are about a young boy who gradually develops magical powers - sound familiar?
These books by Diana Wynne Jones are much better written than later imitators.
PS Re: the person who wrote " unique? no. lame? yes".
Please be assured that not much liking a fairly average but very well marketed series of books is not in fact a symptom of "lameness".

I have seen all the movies and read all the books. the movies are hard to understand if u don't read the books first. I definitely think that the books are better. I suggest u give them a try.

You're under no pressure to like them if you don't want to. I myself think they're unimaginative Star Wars rip-offs (think of the mentors, they're Yoda copies and the wand face-off between Voldemort and Harry was exactly like the light sabre fight between Darth Vader and Luke).
J. K. Rowling is richer than the Queen and she's not even a good writer! Women can get any rubbish published today as female agents and publishers are "empowering" female writers, or being openly sexist to male writers, in other words.

Here, here! I actually bought a ticket for one of the Harry Potter movies, then didn't bother to go see it or get a refund.

I don't like them either, but, I have 3 grandchildren aged between 7 and 15 and they all love them. Let's face it these books were aimed at that age group, so if you don't like them don't watch em. Unfortunately I don't have that option as my grandchildren always want to watch them when they come and stay with me! lol:(

I read a couple of the books and saw the first film... they do nothing for me. I don't get what all the fuss is about. they're just a rip off of LOTR.
