Hi everyone,

Recently my dell laptop crashed to blue screen. The blue screen said that windows had been shutdown to protect the computer. I rebooted and did a virus scan...the virus scan was clean. The blue screen then happened last week again! After that thinks have been kind of down hill. When I put the computer in Stand By mode and come back it tells me my resolution has been changed and now the screen is blurry in spots. A friend of mine said it is probably the video card. Does anyone else agree? Could it be something else??

BTW it's a fairly new computer (bought it in November) and I'm running on Windows XP.

I would strongly suggest that you go back to Dell if you are covered in warranty still. I wouldn't jump the gun and say it was the video card but it is a possibility.

You may want to re-format/re-install Windows XP using your system recovery disk set that Dell would have provided with your purchase to see if it solves the problem. Most of the time, after a complete re-install, correctly that is, it filters out whether it is a hardware or software problem.

One fairly common cause for a blurry screen is if you have suffered a power shortage or a power cut. Here in the UK, we've had several power cuts recently and this has F**ked up quite a few peoples computers. If your PC/Laptop was plugged into the wall during one of these, then you will need to get it definately checked out by a qualified engineer.

I hope this helps.

You need to call the computer manufacture tech support, your hard drive maybe failing.

The spots on the video display are not normal either.

If the video goes out it could be the inverter in the video panel or it could be the video controler on the mother board.

You need to get it fixed before the waranty expires.

Before you send in in to be repaired BACK UP your data. (some repair facilities wipe the hard drive when they work on the system, IBM always did this trick.)

There are How to's on my web site for back up and other tips.

Good luck....

Try another virus scan with a different anti-virus (Kaspersky or NOD 32). Then repair your OS by following this:

If there is no improvement, you may have a hardware problem. Send back your laptop for repairs while still under warranty.
