A male's nipples do the same thing as a female, they are the point on the body where mammary glands output.
Males can lactate under certain circumstances as lactation is controlled by hormones, which all humans have. Male infants (and female infants) are sometimes born lactating due to exposure to the mother's hormones in utero. This is often called "witches milk". I am sure at some point it was considered a sign of something, probably bad luck.
Certain medications can also induce lactation in men, either on purpose or as a side effect. In fact most of the prescription drugs used to induce or aid in the production of milk in women started off as a medication for something else. In some men these drugs will cause lactation (well probably more to the point they will in all men depending on the level.)
And in some cases there have been reports of men spontaneously lactating, usually after the death of their wife when there is a baby around. This doesn't happen very often, particularly in areas where formula is readily available because it's the crying of the baby that causes the hormonal changes. And fed babies don't cry for food ;-)

People say boys started off as girls but God made Adam first so he must have given him nipples for a reason! My man says that they are little sensors-good at sensing changes in temperature and the weather! I think they help enhance the look of the chest as well even though they don't have the same kind of function as women's!

Boys have nipples because when fertilisation takes place in the womb (whether sperm is male or female) we are all the same until the sexual organs start to form. Therefore once sex is determined the nipples are already there.

they are called "rudimentary" nipples and serve no purpose.
They are there because in the womb, a for=etus starts off with the potential to become either male or female until it gets hormones at 6 weeks which tell it which sex to develop into.
The nipples are formed before the 6 weeks and that is why both men and women have them.

Ah Ha, you watch Big Brother too...... When Jade Goody's man was in the diary room he asked the very same question!! The answer was, the foetus is female for 14 weeks in the womb before determining the sex. So any male actually started off as a female!!

I think a male chest would look awfully funny without nipples!
Some men find their nipples to be an erogenous zone as well.

Actually men have nipples because back in the day...cavemen days...men did nurse kind of like wet nurses do today. Male animals do the same thing.
