Or can they select games during the season? It seems that they always get pretty good games.

Yes, Sunday night games are scheduled for ESPN before the season starts. They try to pick match ups they believe will generate interest. Their contract with MLB allows for the game they select to be scheduled in the evening and they have the exclusive right to the telecast.

Some are, some aren't. For example they always know the first Sunday Night game of the season. This year it was the Mets and Cardinals. However on July 22nd before teh season started they did not know who would be playing on that day. I believe it is the Indians and Rangers although I could be wrong.

Yea, what a coincidence they got the Phillies 10,000th loss. Even if it was selected a week ago, no one could have predicted it would have happened last night, crazy.
