I own a 5g 30 gig ipod video.

I've recently been using an Ihome to play music and charge the device. However, when I plug it in i often get a message stating firewire connections are not supported and to press the center button to dismiss.

The Ipod plays perfectly and will shut off when docked via the docks buttons, but will not shut off when undocked either by letting sit (the battery runs dry) or by holding the play button.

I've tried to reset it many times, the hold switch is not on, I've let the battery die all the way and updating it on itunes won't have any affect.

Any ideas?

Hannah,

I tried that as well and it will not work.

As for docks charging uncontrollably, the 5G Ipod is built with special circuitry that shuts off charging, thus allowing one to keep an Ipod docked. This was not so with older generations of Ipod's.

everyone who said reboot it is right
but there's a much easier way to do that
just hold the middle circle button on your ipod and the menu button at the same time until you see the apple logo
after about 10 seconds it'll be rebooted and you should be able to turn it on and off

First off it is not good to let your ipod to sit on docks.. they charge uncontrollably and then you have to replace the battery. And to answer your question go to Settings on your ipod- main menu- sleep ( toward the bottom) and turn it to on. sleep will then appear on your main menu.. and from there you can click it and your ipod will turn off.

I'm not 100% sure, but if you haven't taken out the battery, then put it back in, (you probably have tried that), try it. I live in Florida and sometimes electrical storms cause elex to act crazy, so I either turn off power or take out batteries to REBOOT everything.

carry the play button down. Then in case you have the ipod nano 4th gen like i do you ought to apply the lock button (good of ipod) when you change it off reason in any different case as quickly as you touch the wheel it is going to activate
