I assume that you include snakes (i.e., repitile) in your question and if so, then they would be the most llikely candidate for a person to come across. It has happened to me and when you hear a rattler shake his tail as a waning it strikes the fear of God into you. If you don't include snakes then the most common animal that scares both sexes is a bear. I have run across a grizzly bear and what a site but you certainly keep your distance. Now for some crazy reason mice and rats scare the h*ll out of women.

Snakes, just the mention of them sends scare, Tigers and Lions are still attractive animals.

Okay, you didn't say insect or I would have said spiders. I think snakes and mice are the most commonly feared animals. A surprising number of people are also afraid of dogs.
People should be afraid of hippos though, they look so slow and cute, but they're fierce and a surprising number of people are killed by hippos each year.

I would say it's not an animal, most people are scared of snakes their reptiles. But if I had to choose an animal I fear it would be a lion they can climb trees you know.
