I went to the doctor last Friday because I've been having some brown spotting that comes and goes. At my appointment they heard a strong heartbeat through a doppler, but they didn't do an ultrasound. So I'm still a little worried. I've still been having the brown spotting on and off since my appt. Should I be worried, what could the spotting be coming from? What are the chances of having a miscarriage if you hear a strong heartbeat at 10 weeks?

If you are spotting and it's brown it's old blood and so I would not be too concerned, especially if you heard a strong heartbeat and they sent you home. Lots of women spot or even bleed in early pregnancy and everything is ok.

As to what causes the spotting, it could be from a vaginal infection, a somewhat irritated or inflamed cervix (you may bleed a bit after a cervical smear, for instance), or a cervical polyp, a benign growth.

At 10 weeks you are nearly past the time when a miscarriage is likely to happen so hang in there and I will say a prayer for you!

Spotting during pregnancy is a high risk!! The blood you say is brown in color, that is a good sign that the blood is not fresh as it would be expected with a miscarriage! The spotting can be from many things from sex during pregnancy, or the baby implanting into the wall of the uterus! If the doctor did hear a good strong heart beat at the time of your appointment the doctor should have explained to you the requirements for the signs and symptoms of miscarriage, and bed rest requirements as well. It is in your best interest to remain in the bed and off your feet as much as possible during this time! There are many signs and symptoms of miscarriage some you do not have until the fetus is in distress! It is in your best interest to be checked out again if you are concerned about your unborn child! There are some sites you can look at and read on pregnancy and the signs and symptoms of distress of a fetus ( the baby)! You do need to follow up with your doctor at anytime you feel that something might be wrong such as a change in the color of the blood excessive cramping, feeling faint, weak, short of breath, excessive nausea and vomiting increased tempter.

Im almost 8 weeks pregnant and have been having brown spotting all the way through, Doc said it was fine. You should only be worried if its fresh blood. I had bleeding when i was 4 weeks pregnant and went to hospital but they said i would be okay because it was just my systen flushing out my system!! nothing serious. The bleeding has now stopped though and im still pregnant so dont worry yourself.

It may not be much, but get an second opinion from a doctor who deals with high risk pregnancy. Let them know you concerns from the start. Most times doctor won't do an ultrasound until your in or around your 4 or fifth month. Hopefully everything will be fine for you.

The reason that they sent you home is simple: your uterus is growing and can appear some brown spots. As long as they are not bright red (fresh blood, let's say), everything is OK. I know that you are worried, but please stay calm.

The danger of miscarriage is high during first 10-12 weeks, that's why you should be carefull.

Enjoy your pregnancy and have a healthy baby!

Awww, lots of baby dust to you. For starters absolutely no stress! By you being stressed out about this it can bring on undue stress to your baby. Also it's said that some women bleed off and on throughout out their pregnancy and then go on to have a happy, healthy baby. Just try to relax, that's what the doctors said to me. Good luck to you.
