the ram adviced for vista believe it or not is 2GB, you should upgrade your ram. as for the prices and type of rams, i'd suggest contacting your dealer for that, its always better so that they would support it incase anything went wrong during the upgrade process or later on

Vista is very hardware intensive. The more RAM the better. Get name brand memory like Kingston. Shop around and you'll find a good price. Max out your RAM if you can!

First of all, the memory slots doesn't come from the brand of the memory, the slot is in your computer's motherboard.
Second, just go here http://www.crucial.com
Insert your computer model and it will explain everything.
By the way, I think if you add 1.0GB, it will be 1.5GB (1.0GB + 512 MB=1.5GB) and that's way enough.

Oh and just an advice. Re-install windows xp. Vista is too complicated and too slow.

they recommend 1GB just to run vista. I would see what the mainboard manufacturer recommends for what brand of memory and specs should tell you how much memory the board will handle. I think it's highway robbery anyone sells a computer with vista on it with such little memory!

Would recommend 2GB of memory for a stunning Vista Aero experience

You should upgrade to 2Gb. Kingston and Corsair are good brands.

go here (using Internet Explorer) it will scan your pc and recommend what memory you can use. They're not the cheapest (nor most expensive), they have great customer service and a guarantee: http://www.4allmemory.com/
