The people who make Nero (Ahead software) make a program which is an add on for Nero called Nero Vision Express, this program is for making dvd's from avi. or mpg. format, I use it often and it is very easy to use.

go to the Make Video DVD option .. select your avi file and nero will do the rest.. have the Divx codec installed (divx.com)..
some DVD players play Divx videos , so u can play ur avi file directly in DVD players supporting divx...

The utility does each little thing for you, different than for changing discs. It does this by using coming up a non everlasting "image" of the DVD disc and storing it on your tricky force. you're then further directly to insert a sparkling DVD onto which the image is burned. Voila, one copied DVD.

cant do it with Nero alone
http://www.winavi.com/
i use this, but it struggles with divx sometimes
once it has finished creating files, use Nero to put the contents of the generated VIDEO_TS folder into the VIDEO_TS folder generated by Nero burn away! - you have got a DVD burner???

Use Sothink - it's free, easy to use and will convert your avi to dvd format - you can then burn it directly to dvd or save it to your hard drive and use Nero to burn the dvd if you prefer

EASY STEPS TO WATCHING AVI's ON YOUR DVD PLAYER:
1) Get in your car and drive to Wal-Mart, Circuit City, Worst Buy, whatever and buy a DVD player with any of the following logos on it:
Divx Certified
Ultra Divx
MPEG-4
2) Burn your AVI files directly to CD/DVD as data files - don;t bother re-encoding them.
3) Stick the disk in the player and enjoy.
Here is just a short list of compatible DVD players:
$37.73 - http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=4810681
$44.87 - http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=5584897
$49.99 - http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8216414&st=divx&type=product&id=1166840037410
$49.99 - http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8231512&st=divx&type=product&id=1167445401646
$62.99 - http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Philips-Up-Conversion-DVD-Player-DVP5982-37/sem/rpsm/oid/184178/catOid/-12872/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do
That last one is the best of the lot. It even has a USB port on the fron so you can play AVI files directly from a thumb drive of external hard drive! Now you don't even need to burn to DVD.
Also the DVP5960 is a great player too, and you local Wal-Mart may even carry that in store.
Feel free to eamil me if you want more info about playing your AVI files back on a DVD player instead of wasting hours re-encoding files.
