HI, great question! The fact that so many took time to answer this is I think a testimony to the impact Elvis still has on the world. It's really great to see. Most of the info answered is correct. He passed about 2:30 in the afternoon after having played raquet ball with his friends that morning. Because of the abnormal hours that he kept he and Ginger were heading to bed and Elvis told Ginger to go head to bed as he wanted to read some in the bathroom. Elvis did have a barbershop chair installed in the upstairs bathroom because it was comfortable to red in but from the reports he was using the toilet at the time when his heart gave out. Apparently, Ginger awoke and called to him but when he didn't answer she found him on the floor.
She called to the staff and paramedics rushed him to the hospital where they even tried to revive him but it was too late.
Ironically, one of the nurses that tried to revive him was a lady named Marion Keisker who, when Elvis started going to Sun Records to audition for the owner Sam Phillips in the 50's she was the secretary there at the time and was kind to Elvis.
Even in his death she was still kind as she cared for his body when they couldn't do anything more for him.
This May be lengthy but we should remember a life like Elvis' and his impact on the world. Yes he was still human and screwed up like everyone else but how many can say that in 42 1/2 years they've done as much. And then, he had the Colonel...now that's another story. In August, the week of his anniversary. A special event will be happening in Memphis where several people who were cast and crew with Elvis will be reuniting after 30 years to memorialize Elvis. It's called " A Night of aThousand Stars". It'll be a four day event. Look it up. Another great place to check E's recordinds is
"Elvis Australia.com." Hope I've helped & not overwhelmed. Just "Taking Care of Business", Long Live The King's Memory! - Dave.

Elvis Presley died in 1977. I forget the exact date. His star still shines and may never die. Tabloids claim he is still alive, along with JFK and others. There is a Church of Elvis. A restaurant here in San Francisco has a sign that says "Elvis Eats Here". My Japanese lover asked what that meant.

Elvis Presley died on August 16, 1977 in the bathroom of his Graceland mansion in Memphis, Tennessee. He was 42. He had been on the toilet, but fallen off onto the floor, where he lay in a pool of his own vomit. Panicked, his staff contacted an ambulance, which rushed him to nearby Baptist Memorial Hospital, where, after several attempts to revive him, he died at 3:30 pm CST.
