Legally, the Prresident can cancel the Elections for any reason, or none. The Patriot Act and more recent legislation make provisons for it. He just has to declare a State of Emergency and impose Martial Law.
As a practical matter, even with Fox News spinning twenty four hours a day and the Endorsement of Every Fundamentalist in America, even he has to think he couldn't get away with it. A coup requires strong support from the Military and Bush no longer has any real credibility with them.

Cancelled? No. Postponed or delayed, possibly, but only in the event of a catastrophic event that would preclude or prohibit the election from being held at the normal time.
Such as a major natural disaster (large meteor strike, Yellowstone caldera eruption, etc) or an attack on the US (nuclear, etc). Again, these would only postpone the election until it could be held again.

In the United States? No, there's no precedent for that. Even during the Civil War we had elections.

Yes, after 40 hours of training liberals on how to punch holes in a ballot, they still can't figure it out. The election maybe postponed.
