I have a very clear memory of my maternal grandmother. She was standing at the top of an open staircase that overlooked her living room. The stairs and the living room were carpeted in red. I was at the bottom of the stairs by the rocking chairs. In addition to her large rocker there was a small one for her grandchildren. There is a bear (stuffed) in the small rocker. A pillow (gold) is in the large chair. She is speaking to me but I cannot understand what she is saying. It's all gobbledegook, except Judalee (My first name is Judy, middle name is Lee. Family tends to run it together.)

I also remember sitting on her front steps eating cookies and drinking milk from tiny cartons --the first time I had ever had my own little carton of milk, a real novelty in 1960.

I was 18 months old when she died.

No, that is not unusual. Most earliest memories begin about age 4 or 5.
However, oddly enough I can remember being in my diapers as a baby. I remember my mother carrying me in her arms when I was very little. She would stand at the kitchen window watching. I remember her saying, "Who is it?" Someone would drive by.
I can remember many many childhood memories from that time early on.
It may even be possible that I can remember even earlier before birth. I asked my mother a question about a certain type of wall paper. I was a teenager by then, My mom was discussing about painting the walls in the bed room and I started describing the wall paper that used to be there before the walls were painted white. To her surprise , she said, "that was before I was even born."
This confused me at that time. How could I had remembered that distinctive pattern of that wall paper with the swans and lily-of-the-valley flowers on a sort of muted green background, I'll never know. I was a very weird kid! Then I grew up only to become a very weird adult!

The youngest age I am remember being is 3.
It was when myy little brother was born and I went to the hospital to see him.
I'm not sure if it is normal for your first memory to be when you were 5 though.

I remember being 2 years and almost three months. My mother had brought my half sister home from the hospital. I still remember that. I know how old she is, and how old I had to be at that moment.
