I have my Wii connecte to my HDTV using the supplied cable, and I'm quite happy with it. Would I notice a significant difference if I bought the component video cable?

... it's not a huge one but does make a difference, more with games like Zelda, Red Steet, Splinter cell etc where there is a lot of detail. On sports or games with less details then not a lot.. Don't buy the Wii brand one... there are much cheaper and just as good 'unbranded ones on the market' Mind cost £7.00 inc P&P on ebay.

It only upscales it from 480i to 480p with the cables, but if you go to this site, which shows a comparison between the two different types of cables.

You can see a obvious difference between the two, it's not a huge difference but I just went out and got the cables for my HDTV and I'm very happy that I did.

Displaying composite (480i), you are going to get a fuzzy picture with no clean edges or vibrant colors. Displaying at component (480p), you are going to get sharp picture with vibrant colors.

No, it will not look high def because 480p is not high def. I still there is a noticeable difference. I think it was a smart decision for Nintendo to not go high def because this would increase the cost of the system. Since most games are cartoonish, there isn't really a need for high def. Xbox 360 and PS3 are more into realistic and life-like graphics. Hence the need for high def engine and graphics.

while the ps3 and 360 delvelopers had the idea that some of their customer would be playing on a hd tv and wud want the best image as possible nintendo focused (as always) on innovation so no u wont see a bigger difference not even with games like legend of zelda i have both a hd tv and a normal tv and have played on both with the wii (with component cable) and it wasnt worth the money
