Leo Tolstoy was one of Russia's greatest writers. He wrote an interesting short story that answers your question. I found it very powerful. It's on the internet at:

Life itself is worth living for. Being born as human is the precious gift of nature. You can enjoy and derive every second of your life by spreading love among all living creatures.

LOVE!!!

Love is the bliss in both material and spiritual worlds. Love is at the heart of the desire to live.

Our true love is covered so much in this material existence we then start to not care about our temporal bodies.

We do not see the relationship between Love and Life. Consequently, we hurt others and hurt ourselves as well.

Love is the first word in existence after God, the Supreme Being. God creating anything seemingly outside of Himself was essentially out of pure love.

There are so many things that make me glad that I am alive. A kiss from my wife. A hug from my children and grandchildren. A beautiful sunrise. a kind word. etc.
