in life we encounter problems,,loose,,learn our mistakes,,and try to do better while playing a next game,,with another opponent,,isnt that more like chess,,

attacking,,defencing,,

haven't ever anyone said " it was a clever move by u to take such a responsibility "
" it was a smart move by u from getting embarrassed "

i think life is mostly chess,,the only 2 differences are--
1) in life,,we play our moves simultanously with opponent,,i mean at the same time
2)in life,,there r more than 2 opponent,,

what do u ppl think on this??

I used to feel the same way. But in chess the people around you are your opponents. In life, people can be benefactors.
Not everyone is trying to oppose you or defeat you. And a few with the depth of understanding actually rise up above the game board and bypass the game.
In conflicts that are in a specified arena, the Chess board applies well, but in life, there are many other things going on and the chess board looses its edges, allowing many more possibilities. including alliances.

You're right. From a macro/microcosmic view all games denote some aspect or dimension of our struggles through life. Even a simple game like snakes and ladders. In real life, have you ever experienced that feeling of being bitten by a large snake when you're in house 99?

Chess is more complex and more life-like, and the opponent is usually ourselves. It is the only game that thinking, reasoning and problem-solving have the last word not the dice (chance). That is why it is so beautiful like life.

You are about 80% right. The only difference is when a chess player is so good, he would be able to know how to play the next step to win the game but in life, we can never guess exactly the outcome of one action. And life is not replayable. Not like chess.

In life there always is not an opponent present in every situation. most of the opposition is in self of the person.
ya u can compare with chess from some parts of life.
The main aim of chess is to aquire the place of the other while in life the main aim is to have your own created standing and place in the world.

It depends on how you view and wish to play. Life can be simple and beautiful if we do not play with it and get into unwanted intrigues. Life can also be short and sweet like a smooth line if we draw it strait between two points. Certainly we need not play Chess with Life.

Chess is an adversarial activity -- your goal is to defeat your opponent. Life is rarely so adversarial, unless you are a soldier. Life is much better lived in a cooperative model than an adversarial model.

Also, in life, one rarely encounters situation (adversaries?) one at a time: life comes at you from all directions.

So, reducing life to the simplicity of a game (even one as complicated as chess) doesn't seem to provide much insight as far as I can see.

The game itself. But I've been being mostly a white pawn, or a black knight. White pawn, because I am the only soldier of my life struggling for survival (like anybody else). And white because I wasn't aware of it and the rules before I got involved; I wasn't armed and prepared. And nobody told me, like nobody was aware themselves. But I was lucky! Black knight, because I'm not simple. But life's much more greater than we can simplify it or use metaphor about it. Life is life. Just play the game ;)

no. your missing two large factors.
love and life.
love is never found in chess, only obsession.
the possibilities in a chess game is limited.
life is unexpected. its filled with suprises.
misfortune and sickness.
the list goes on.
life is no where close to a board game.
(is it possible to give people bad ratings on a question?)

That was a good idea.... however.....

By your own admission, life is severalfold more complex than a mere game of chess. What is more important is that it is not just a game..... we take it phenomenally more seriously than we would ever take any game... I only wish one could treat it that way to be rid of much of the hype and fuss.
