so much selfishness and hatred in this life.

Excellent question.

In the past, love was seen as something beyond just feelings. It was the idea that we were created to be together; that we were incomplete without the beloved. We used phrases such as "love you with my heart". We used "heart" to keep it separated from mere thought. A "marriage made in heaven". The expression of a divine influence.

In the past, we believed that we had to daily affirm our commitment to this beautiful thing called love.

Today it is as if love is a disease of the mind. We have no control when we get it and no control as to getting over it. Commitment is irrelevant if we're talking about a disease.

So many in the world are experiencing a very difficult time in life. It may seem that Love has left us at times. Our fears lead to selfishness and hatred and it becomes hard to see the love in our life.

If you are speaking from personal experience, I am so sorry you have experienced selfishness and hatred. We all share that pain. I believe we learn from these experiences.

I send you kind thoughts and wish you great happiness in the future.

So often our current culture emphasises the horrible stories, we forget that there are a majority of us who love and care for each other. We hear the exceptions instead of the rules....

We can't control others, only ourselves. Let your own actions be loving.

Love is.

Love exists.

You are loved

I do not agree. I think you are limiting your question to romantic love only. Romantic love is tricky. People aren't taught how to become whole in the first place and stand alone and fufilled BEFORE getting into a committed relationship. Resentment and blame and unhappiness is the result. Is that selfish? Ya perhaps but most people are doing the best they can. Will those same people cry for other's misfortunes? Will they love their families? Give to charities? Care for their communities? Volunteer? Help a neighborr? ABSOLUTELY!!

Alack of commitment,It's like the rest of our society make it disposable.Takeing on the responisability of love is tremendous endevor. You are saying you will do not harm, put there interest first, support them in big and small things, you will build up not tear them down, and treat them as you wish to be treated. It's a big order and some don't know the difference between love, lust and infatuation.Thats the starting point.

I think that it is that there is so much fear in the world. Governments, religions, newspapers and television feed the fear to keep people in line. Because of that fear, people do not react to others. I am 62 and have seen a huge change in the relationship amount others. My mantra is that fear is the issue and the problem. If we could realize that, we can change the world.

it obviously isnt the same anymore.....love these days is lust.....

and love is always a demand rather then random. It sucks because day after day its always changing....and it all leads to sex (at least the media describes it to us that way)..... and that love will never be the same because this world is not the same anymore.....people will always have standards for love and alone.....those standards can never be entirely met.
