I had my little premature baby girl on June 20th because I had placenta previa, which lead to severe bleeding and contractions by week 33. I had nothing to do with it at all, it is one of these things that just happen but as a mom I do blame myself too because it was my body that failed my baby. I know it may sound senseless but I know that most moms who were put in my position felt the same way at some point. Just stand by her and keep reassuring her that it was not her mistake.

The body is an incredible and complicated orginism. The body will protect it's self (and the baby). If the body senses something is wrong, either with the baby or the host, it will try to clean things up with its immune system. If the immune system can't do its job or is not strong enough to do what it needs to, the body will abort the baby. If the mother is far enough along, she may give birth prematurely. It is VERY important for the mother to start seeing a doctor Immediately when she finds out she is pregnant AND see the the doctor regularly afterward. The mother can't take any medication, not even Tylenol unless the doctor says it's okay. There is a good chance your friend did nothing wrong, it may have just been her body protecting its self.

Premature birth just happens, most of the time the mother did nothing to cause it.
I had my son at 36 weeks but he starting trying to come at about 30 weeks. I was put on tribunline to stop my labor til I was 35 weeks. I didn't drink, smoke, or lift anything heavy.
A co-worker had her son at 29 weeks and she didn't do anything. She had a very normal pergnanty til then. She got very very sick and neither she or the baby would have made it unless the baby was delivered.

For me it just happened. I broke my waters at 19 weeks, but never went into labour. My boy was delivered at 26 weeks by caesar, and although for a long time I felt guilty because I felt my body had failed him, in the end I got over those feelings. It took time though, and nothing anyone would have said to me would have made any difference, it was just a part of the grieving and healing process for the loss of the healthy baby that I had imagined. My son is now a seven year old little legend, and I'm actually thankful for our experience, it has made me grow in many ways.

Sometimes babies just decide to come see us early. It isn't because she did anything wrong. Nature doesn't always do what we expect it to.
Out of 12 pregnancies I only had 7 living children. I was very careful always, didn't drink or smoke, monitored my diet, exercised etc...and still lost 5. But the seven I did have are the joy of my life. Perhaps because I can appreciate them even more because of having lost the others.
Tell your friend that blaming herself will not change the course that nature took and that she will find joy in children too.

my baby was born at 26 weeks due to an abbrubtion of the placenta where the placenta starts to come away from the wall of the uterus. there are many things that can cause an abbrubtion, but it is also very common for it to spontaniously start its selve like it did with me. for months i felt guilty for what happened and at times i still do, but i know i didnt do anything wrong to start it off from happening. sometimes we women are just unfortunate to have to go through something so traumatic. im pretty sure if she were to become pregnant again the hospital and doctors would keep a closer eye on her. like they are doing with me just now.
