Its a fair question. One of the pitfalls of democracy is the possibility that large blocs of the "poor" will realize that they outnumber the "rich" and decide to use the ballot box to claim assets that they have no right to.

I'd say that the working poor--those who pay income taxes, even IF they are going to get them all back at tax time, should be allowed to vote.

Those who simply take from the system, without generating a dime of their own income--maybe shouldn't be voters.

Avoid this whole problem by abolishing income tax, and injstating a National "consumption" tax (sales tax). That way everybody has a voice, because everybody pays.

The right to vote is not tied to paying taxes, nor should it be. What makes you think it should be otherwise?? Do you think that people should be disenfranchised simply because they're poor? I can't possibly think of a more abhorrent system.

Virtually everyone pays tax of one sort or another either directly or indirectly so even if this were a requirement, everyone would still have the right to vote.

What a wonderful idea! All those bleeding hearts would actually have to do a hard day's work and pay tax in order to get their petty laws passed. So many infringements of our liberties have been passed by people with nothing better to do than write out petitions and carry banners,if they had a job they would'nt have the time!

No. In the US we do not have a law that says you have to pay taxes. Only if you earn money or buy something might you owe taxes.
