Why is it that when a white person is racist to a black person, its called racism, and when its a black person being racist to a white person its 'reverse' racism? I heard a newsreader say it in this way and i always thought that racism was to do with being racist to a race? Bit confused

Good queestion. The White race has been considered dominant and superior, so being racist towards blacks is racism. The minorities barely diss whites than blacks so it is reverse racism.

Racism is the advancement of one race at the expense of another... you tell me where a black person has done this or been capable of having the power to do this, throughout history, and I will tell you of a case where a black was racist to a white.

However, I do believe that there are racial prejudices either way. That mess is wrong. I dont agree with racist remarks, or actions from ANY race.

Racism is racism no matter from which direction it comes from. The PC of this world would have us believe that only white people can be racist. It is an acknowledgement that it also works the other way but PC would have us believe it is rare hence the term. Like all PC it has a twisted form of logic in trying to show a difference where there is none r

Which ever way the act goes it is racism. However it was first practiced white on black and that was the accepted phenomenon. However the recent reversal is not a "norm" and thus has the title reverse racism. However you will find that in places where the blacks are dominant the reverse applies.....

Good point. Adding "reverse" in front of racism doesn't make a person any less racist. People of all colours can be racist.

Well, you're right - racism is racism period and it shouldn't be called anything but what it is. I find it very ironic that black people bemoan racism and being treated a certain way but seem to have no trouble treating others exactly the same way. It's not right no matter what your skin color is.

its a semantic problem as well a social context problem, black being the minority in the UK they can be discriminated against, white being the majority its not such a problem.
while both can be racist, only the majority can racial discriminate against the minority, if the minority discriminates against the majority then its 'positive discrimination'.

unfortunately the word racism (negative) has been appropriated by the chattering classes to refer only to white against black (black being short hand for any non European).
as daft as it seems.
