I have talked to people about this subject, and some think that all we have to do is be here and be nice to each other...don't you think that it would be pointless to just be on earth in order to accumulate things, things that we will soon lose again once we are gone? And just make a family because society expects us to do so? Do you also believe that one day, accidentally, everything came together in perfect harmony and there was suddenly life? How do you explain this perfect order? (I am reffering to atheists mostly...)

Many, upon asking themselves, answer this most important of questions with an inspirational statement or two that has applied to their own good and bad experiences in life. While many of these sayings like "be happy", "try your hardest", "never be discouraged" and so forth are ways to help make life more meaningful, they will still leave the question of life nagging indefinitely. As many words as one can say will never bring closure to the question, for the answer is not a logical conclusion that one can share with others.

The "answer" to the meaning of life can only be found within oneself, appearing through the experience of realizing the connection of the core of what makes your being with that of the universe. If you truly want to reach this understanding, you must be willing to disregard all that has come between the pure essence of your existence and the person you have become to function in the world. The door to this journey has been left closed by many more than have opened it, for the idea of making changes and seeing the world in new ways is frightening for those who have made themselves comfortable in their place. When these people are asked your question they will give you a quick and unsatisfying answer.

Try to isolate the feeling that led you to ask your question in the first place and discover where it came from. Only you can find your own way to the one answer.

To me the meaning of life is to be healthy, happy and have no regrets. That's it...

None of these can you buy.

In the last year my Mum passed away after enduring a year long illness. I had the most wonderful relationship with my Mum, we were as close as was possible for two people to be. I have no regrets. Six weeks later, my Nan had a massive stroke and died. In the last two months my Dad has been in hospital virtually paralysed, and then having major surgery.

Naturally all this has really made me re evaluate my life, and the meaning of life. I have never followed the expectations of society. As yet at 35 I am not married and have no children.

I do believe in God, and that there is an overall plan for each individual that we cannot change. I'm just a bit confused as to the reasoning behind all that has happened, and rather apprehensive as to what can possibly happen now.

I can only pray that good things are to come... and perhaps the meaning of life and perfect harmony will then become clearer to me.

Animals know they are here to collect energy, make babies, and avoid being eaten.

Humans for some reason keep stumbling over this obvious truth. If you manage to find a good job, make a family and have a nice time, congratulations on passing the Darwinian test. You are NOT the weakest link, goodbye anyway. Your children get to play the next round.

Humans make children because we are animals, and that's what animals do. Society is our tool to facilitate this process, not the reason we do it. Society is a highly organized construct that allows sweet young women to believe the world is harmonious, when they are in reality only 3 telephone digits (911) away from summoning a violence specialist, trained to put a bullet through the head of anyone disrupting the heretofore mentioned harmony.

Hi Natalie, My "Meaning of Life" is that one should enjoy each and every moment of it. We only get one ride, and we'd better ride it til the wheels fall off!

I believe that we all have a purpose here on earth. Tho we don’t know what it is. I believe that “our book” (life) is written the day we are born, and once we have served our purpose then our life ends.

This belief has gotten me through the loss of loved ones, especially when I lost my b/f when his car was hit by a train. I had just turned 18 and he was 21 . . . very sorrowful when a young life is taken from us.

Some people just go through life, doing the same old routine. It’s sad that they forget to stop and enjoy life. They are missing out on so much and they cannot relive it!
Yes, I believe that we should all be good-natured with each another, tho there are surely exceptions to that. One has to stand up for what they believe in, and stand their ground when treated badly.

YES, I UNQUESTIONABLY BELIEVE THAT “IT WOULD BE POINTLESS TO JUST BE ON EARTH IN ORDER TO ACCUMULATE THINGS!” There is such a large difference in wanting nice material items and being compulsive with requiring material items. My ex-husband is a prime example of that. Spending THOUSANDS on muscle cars that he doesn’t even drive and enjoy. They just sit in his garage . . . maybe they are admired as trophies for him. But what is the use in having material things if you do not enjoy them? All they did were make him feel GREAT when he bought, but then the novelty wore off and he felt empty again. SO SO SAD!!!

I don’t believe that one should have children just because it is expected of them. Some people purely don’t want children, and we shouldn’t we pressured just because our folks want grandchildren. Giving life to a human being is a blessed turning point. But what if the parent(s) are unable to provide adequately for this innocent life? Is it justifiable to bring them into a world where life is a struggle?

When I was 20yrs old, I had a vision, (Yes, I know some of you reading this are rolling your eyes). That vision was that our future world would be full of turmoil. I am grateful that I listened to what my heart told me. Our world is SO messed up! Not just politically, but we have destroyed things that can never return. I’m referring to mother nature and wildlife. I remember being a child and all the beautiful butterflies. This minuscule item is scarce these days. Along with many other animals and products of mother nature. I could discuss and debate this all day long!!!!!

As far as your statement: “believe that one day, accidentally, everything came together in perfect harmony and there was suddenly life? How do you explain this perfect order?” . . . I don’t have an explanation. I do believe in God, but science also has a lot of consistent facts to go against the words of the bible regarding how “humans” originated.

This is an excellent question, and I will give it a star!!!

God sets a mission for all Christians. Jesus set the mission for the apostles and those sent forth to all nations: Matthew 28: 19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: 20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen. The apostle Paul talks about good stewardship which is at the heart of good discipleship of the consecrated. 2 Corinthians A. Christians have a stewardship responsibility. “Every man according as he purposeth in his heart” (9:7) B. Christians make stewardship decision. “As he purposeth in his heart, so let him give.” (9:7) C. Christians have mental attitude of giving without thought of return. “Not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loveth a cheerful giver.” (9:7) D. Consecration comes from a willing heart. “They were willing” (8:3) “First a willing mind” (8:12) E. A Christian gives in proportion to ability “It is accepted according to that which a man hath, and not according to that which he hath not.” (8:12) F. A Christian will not suffer loss by giving as God would have them give. “He who soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully.” (9:6) G. A Christian suffers from joy as a resuly of giving. “For God loves a cheerful giver.” (9:7) Here Paul tell us what a person under the discipleship and consecrated does: Philippians 4: 8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. 9 Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you. Within the Elect, the consecrated, there are many jobs. Ephesians 4:11. And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; 12. For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: Here Paul breaks down the offices: A. apostles B. prophets C. evangelists D. pastors E. teachers Stewardship is the responsibilities that God has set for Christians to watch over and care for. These are set by God Almighty knowing us better that we ourselves may know us. He sets this tasks and will not give us a task that we can not carry out. Acts 1: 8 “But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you."

You are right most things r just temporary, but Iife is eternal . . After seeing my dead relatives in their coffin i realised what life is. Life is the spirit that made them the personalities they were. Life is the electricity that lightens us up. So to me life is about experiencing each level/plane and dimension of our ascension to that level that we could call oneness with God and part of the All. Its just like school, if u don't graduate u will have to do the year again until u do. So it is in life if we don't spiritually graduate in this life we will have do so in a next life. This is why some us have de ja vu and feelings of being here before.

If the meaning of life was to amass any amount of monetary value, or to simply start a family, or just be a certain way, life is much too long and utterly pointless.

I say, there is no set meaning. We make our own purpose and meaning in life, carving out our own destinies and living our lives as we decide to live them, unhindered by the expectations of others, submitting to no one else's ideas of who and what we should be other than our desires.

That, or the meaning of life is to be cannon fodder for my ultimate DoomsDay event. Someday, I will make the entire universe implode upon itself by simply uttering the ultimate paradox. Let's all hop aboard this crazy train straight for Hell and back through a rift in the fabric of reality. YEEHAW!

You're right. It's all pointless without a Creator.

There are those who say there is no meaning to life and claim to be happy about it but I've never actually seen anyone live that way. Somewhere in their heads they know that love, compassion, justice, courage, selflessness, etc. are noble things for which to live. They live as if those things give their lives meaning but their philosophical worldview doesn't support it.
