Why DID people choose to follow Hitler?
He did not deserve to be my leader either, gemini.

Everyday there are at least 2-3 questions about Hitler here on Yahoo Answers. It seems his lifeless corpse still holds some power over the living. To understand why people followed him, it is best to look deeper into the events that occurred in Germany after the First World War, and the way that the European people were attracted to Fascism at the time. One reason I can offer now is that there was no strong tradition of democratic values in Germany before and during the Weimar Republic.

What Godknown said. Also, Germany was financially crushed after the punishments of the Treaty of Versailles. Hitler promised recovery, he rebuilt the military (even though there were restrictions on it by the ToV) and got under him, the financial sintuation was made stable again through a new currency. Hitler got back the Sudetenland (in Czechoslovakia) lost in the ToV as well as Austria and other places. Basically, Hitler made Germany mighty again after WWI

Germany was in a depression and Hitler promised to lead them to prosperity. The country saw he was improving their society and blindly followed him. The "killing" he devised came at the citizens slowly, a piece at a time. By the time his plans were put into action, nobody gave a thought to what they were doing as it was considered improvements for the country as a whole.

Hitler offered hope and an "easy answer" to life for people who needed hope ( and answers to life...) He made them feel good when they felt bad , he taught them that they could blame other people for the problems around them - and that they were better and more special than anyone...
Who doesn't want to feel special and good about themselves -and to be able to blame others for all the bad things in life? Wouldn't you like or follow someone who made you feel that way? Trouble is, Hitler was really messed up- and wrong about so many things...

Well, he's dead now, so you don't have to worry about following him. But to answer your question, they must have followed him because of the power he wielded, especially in his words. He was almost like a hypnotist in his country. He most definitely was a powerful leader, but his judgment was corrupted by hatred.

Anyhow, I hope this helps,
GK

P.S. Ironically he had Jewish roots. Also, he couldn't have been considered a part of the aryan race which is blue eyes and blonde hair. He had brown eyes and black hair.
