well if the big dog is a big mean dog, then very fast.

Don't run. Fight the dog.
Even though you run to most top speed as your legs can carries you, you can never beat the dog's speed.
Dog are dog. There are always an instinct in the dog that afraid of human. Human is always Lord to dog an any other animal. Dog are pets. Man and dog are friend for century. If luck is with you, maybe the dog is a bit afraid of you, she might turn back when you face her to fight her.

well humans can't outrun dogs so not fast enough ,,,and humans are bigger than dogs so who cares your fear is what they look for i think dogs understand me and stay clear or befriend me ,,as i do try to befriend them i work with ppls homes all the time

I wouldn't run. That would only make him/her chase me... I would stop and take my sweater or coat and throw it over their head and twist it to the ground... If I didn't have one on, I would still stop and break his jaw... I learned how... and it's happened to be before...
