I was supposed to get my period on July 12. I was spotting brownish pink that morning, but my actual period never came. I have now been spotting very light brown discharge for 5 days. HPT was negative. Could I still be pregnant?

There is always a chance. You may not have enough hcg in your system yet for the test to detect, some people never do. I would wait a few more days and then take another test. But, if you absolutely can not wait, make an appointment with your doctor. They will most likely just do another pregnancy test there, and don't be fooled into taking a blood test, the urine test is actually going to detect a pregnancy sooner. Good luck!

Because it would be very early in a pregnancy, a HPT can show a false negative result. I had the same thing with my 1st pregnancy and waited another week then took another one and sure enough I was pregnant! My doctor explained that because your body always retains some blood from previous periods, it can still expel it when you are pregnant. but your hormone level hasn't reached the point where a HPT is able to detect it yet. If your breasts/nipples are tender or you feel abdominal pressure you could very well be pregnant, but if the spotting changes to bleeding I would go and see a doctor.
Also, what birth control were you using before you started TTC? Going off the pill or removing IUD's can effect your periods so it could just be that. Good Luck!
