Ok, I'm going to advertise in the phone book Yellow pages and the salesman says 80% of all callers only look at the big ads when they call.
So, what about you? If you are looking for someone in the Yellow pages, do you call the advertisers with box ads first or do you call the businesses with just a single line of type?

I go for the big box ads first, I figure, if they pay to advertise their products/services in a big way, they will perform in a the same way. Money talks for a lot of people. Advertise big!!

Well first of course the phone company is going to tell you that people look at the big ads. If you get a big ad MORE MONEY, but if you go with the plain listing less money. When I myself am looking in the yellow pages I usually know who I am looking for so I just go to the regular listing as in alphabetical order. Also with the big ads they are NOT necessarily in alphabetical order. They can and often do jump from page to page. Check your phone book out and you'll see what I am saying here. I would think the bottom line is can you afford the BIG ad. If you can (TAX write off) then go for it. But a standard listing should work.

I always look up the yellow pages online. You're more evenly placed there to find exactly what you want with the search engine. Haven't used a paper copy of the yellow pages in years.

I have to admit, I look for the box ads first. If I recognize the company and I know they are reputable, then I call them.

First thing I would look at would be the big ad since it was probably the first thing that caught my eye, but I usually look at all the others as well because I look for one closest to me.

they are trying to get you to fork out more money, they get a bonus when they convince someone to take out bigger ads, when people are looking for a service, they look around, and, in many cases will rather go for a smaller specialist than a big faceless corporation. a smaller business is usually more personal and has more to loose so provide a better service, dont be sucked in by a big company, we're not

I'll admit the box ads. But if it's something that's going to cost a lot of money i.e. contractors, I call every single one.
