It is a recent movie (within 3 years) and it's not some obscure B movie. My memory makes me think it was comic book based but I've rules out the major adaptations. Then I thought it could have been "V for Vendetta" but I ruled that one out too. A lot of people I've spoken to remember the scene but no one can remember the movie.
The scene is near the end of the movie with a battle between the hero and villain. They are higher up like in a warehouse or clocktower and they go behind something so you just see their silhouettes. They are fighting with blades and then the action goes 2D like an old school fighting video game, like "Street Fighter". The villain is defeated and then the scene goes back to normal 3D.
Can anyone help me with this?

Was it maybe "UltraViolet" with Mila Jovovich? That's the only thing I can think of. Sorry.

Could be one of the Highlander series of movies starring Christopher Lambert. There are 5 movies all in all. Sean Connery co starred in the first two Movies, Mario Van Peebles was in the Third and Adrian Paul of the Highlander TV series starred in the last two.
